**Description**


By default, the list of ``abscissas`` and ``counts`` will be evenly
divided among the histogram point string variables.  The number of
``pairs_per_variable`` specifies the apportionment of abscissa/count pairs
among the histogram point string variables.  It must specify one
integer >=1 per variable that indicates how many of the (abscissa,
count) = (x,c) pairs to associate with that variable.
